Four maps of the United States look strikingly similar. These maps only take into account the Anglo conquest, but of course Spanish conquest was also occurring early-on in the West.

The indigenous populations of present-day US (and indeed all of the Americas, Australia, and many other parts of the world) have been steadily displaced, massacred, and confined to small areas. The small areas are often euphemistically named, like the "homelands" of South Africa, or the "reservations" of the US, but in reality they cut these populations off from most of their land and resources.
